What To Wear When Coming to the Chiropractor
Be sure to wear comfortable and loose clothing that will not interfere with or get in the way of the treatment you are booked for. And yes, you do get to keep your clothes on. Tank tops and gym shorts are preferable.
What To Do After You See the Chiropractor
Avoid sitting for long periods of time after seeing the chiropractor, if possible, and enjoy the mobility that your adjustment has created by going for a long walk, or take a bike ride. If you are headed back to work and have the option of a standing desk—utilize it! If you had any type of spinal traction, you should avoid heavy lifting for the next 2-4 hours. Some soreness after treatment is normal. If it's annoying reach for an ice pack!
Will it hurt?
Most patients find chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture and soft tissue therapies relieving, not painful. Some techniques may create mild soreness similar to how you might feel after a good workout — a sign that your body is responding and healing. We always adjust our approach based on your comfort level and preferences.
What if I don’t want to be "cracked" or hear popping sounds?
That’s completely okay! We offer gentle, low-force techniques such as ArthroStim adjustments, drop-table adjustments, and slow joint mobilizations that don’t involve the traditional "pop" sound. We tailor every treatment to what you feel comfortable with.
What are your rates?
We offer affordable self-pay options and accept all major credit cards. We're also in-network with most major insurance plans, including Medicare, VA Community Care, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, MedCost, and Aetna. If you've been involved in an accident, we accept Personal Injury cases as well.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. Chiropractic care is extremely safe when performed by a trained, licensed professional. Numerous research studies support the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic treatment, especially for common issues like back pain, neck pain, and headaches. Before any treatment begins, we perform a thorough examination to ensure the techniques we recommend are appropriate for you.
Can I still get adjusted with a bulging disc?
Yes, in many cases, you can safely receive chiropractic care if you have a bulging disc. Our doctors perform a thorough examination to determine the best and safest treatment options for your specific situation.
Gentle techniques, such as Cox flexion-distraction, spinal traction, or low-force adjustments, are often recommended to relieve pressure on the disc without adding strain.
Research shows that conservative care like chiropractic treatment can significantly reduce pain, improve mobility, and help avoid the need for more invasive treatments like surgery. Your safety is always our first priority, and your care plan will be tailored to what your body needs to heal properly.
Do you work with other healthcare providers?
Absolutely. We believe in a team-based approach to healthcare. If needed, we collaborate with your primary care doctor, orthopedist, neurologist, or other providers to ensure you get the best possible results.
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
Chiropractors and acupuncturists are considered "portal of entry" providers and you generally do not need a referral. The only time you would need a referral in our office is if you receive care through VA Community Care - But it's still easy! Just ask your provider at the Morehead City VA Clinic for a referral for either chiropractic or acupuncture.
What are the benefits of acupuncture?
Acupuncture can help with a wide range of conditions, including:
- Pain management (chronic pain, acute injuries, arthritis)
- Headaches and migraines
- Stress and anxiety reduction
- Improved sleep quality
- Digestive issues
- Fertility support
- Enhancing immune function
It works by stimulating specific points on the body to encourage the body’s natural healing processes.
How long are treatment plans?
Every patient is unique, and so are their treatment plans. Some people experience improvement within just a few visits, while others with more complex or chronic conditions may require a longer plan to achieve the best results.
Our approach is focused on helping you reach your health goals efficiently and sustainably. Once you feel better, we’ll discuss ways to maintain your progress with a plan that fits your lifestyle and preferences.
Will I have to keep coming forever?
No, not at all. Our goal is to get you feeling better as quickly and efficiently as possible. Some patients choose ongoing wellness care because they enjoy feeling and functioning at their best, but that decision is always yours. We’ll create a personalized plan based on your goals — whether that's short-term relief, long-term maintenance, or performance optimization.
What if I'm nervous or have never been to a chiropractor before?
You're not alone! Many of our patients were nervous at first. We take extra time to walk you through what to expect, answer all your questions, and ensure you feel informed and comfortable every step of the way. No surprises — just compassionate, personalized care.
